Everyone passes the driving test quite easily, don't they? Oh come on, it has be easy, right? After all everyone's got a license! These are some of the common mindsets of candidates who often fail. While the test isn't that hard at all, you need to do a lot of homework to pass with flying colours and more importantly, to end up as a responsible driver.

Here are a few tips on how to pass your driving test:

(1) Practice! Make sure you get tonnes of practice! Alright. You've had all those driving lessons with family, friends and a driving school and your've passed the written test  - the learner's permit. Your friends and family and you all agree that you drive pretty safe and you've got the skills and knowledge need to pass your driving test - now all you gotta do is attend the driving test, right? Wrong! You might have done well till now but you're no pro yet. You still need lots of practice. Are you good at parking, reversing, u-turns and how about round-abouts and intersections? Be honest to yourself and improve where need be.

(2) Survey your test area! Surveying test routes is a smart strategy. Not only will you know what lies ahead, but you'll also end up being more confident. Also, you'll have an upper hand if the weather lets you down on your big day. Rains shouldn't be a problem now, for you know your path well.

(3) Know your test vehicle well! What's the point of all that prep if in the end you have no clue about the vehicle? Do a small inspection before the start of the drive so that you know the layout and the dashboard well.

(4) Be calm! It's okay to feel a little shaky, after all it's a driving test. Sadly, too many nerves can have a serious effect on your hand-eye coordination, which is very much of the essence to drive well. Moreover, you'd want to be steady and upright instead of trembling with fear every time you see a few cars coming from the opposite direction. Also, too many nerves can cloud your judgement - so take some deep breaths and stay calm.

(5) Watch where you're going! Being calm is important, but that doesn't mean that you take this as a simulation. Be watchful, be aware of the fact that anything and everything can happen in the real world. Will be you ready to react to sudden bumps or jumps, or worse, avoid head on collisions? Sounds a bit too far fetched, but you never know. From my experience (taking over 1,000 students to driving tests) the most common cause of failure is poor observation - in particular spotting and reading speed signs, spotting and reading road markings and spotting hazards. If a drive observes speeds signs, road markings and hazards - then they can act and respond. Driver's who miss speed signs are the drivers who drive 60 km/hr in a 40 km/hr speed zone and fail their test!

(6) Stick to the rules! Yes, very important. But before you do that, you got to know all the rules! Revise each and every one of them before you attempt your test at https://goo.gl/BMXAfL. You don't want to be caught off guard on your last lap. Keep to the right of every lane, watch for those signals and proceed accordingly and break as smoothly as possible to add some poise and professionalism to your skills.

(7) Drive steady! It is very critical that you drive with a constant speed. Candidates often think that driving fast makes them look well versed. INCORRECT. Respect the speed limits. Don't go overboard or else there isn't a chance for you to pass your driving test. Also - don't drive too cautious and timid - a driver who driver 40 km/hr in a 60 km/hr zone holds up the traffic and fails their test.
